  • Thanks, Bill, for alerting me to this forthcoming book. I got connected to WCS in 1958 because my mother had once been one of David's girls (girlfriend/conquest? Who knows?) and although she had no intention of reviving that connection, for some obscure reason it was enough to get me into the school. I lasted three years but perhaps my father found out about the connection, as he refused to pay my fees for the final year (although I was told a different story by him and yet another one by my mother) and I was not allowed to return for my senior year. HUGE disappointment to me, but I still thank David for listening to my begging to be allowed to be graduated by WCS so I took the extra courses that summer to be granted a certificate of graduation - not a diploma - but at least I completed something.

My mother was a lifelong alcoholic, and quite likely did have some kind of romantic 'thing' with David at some time as he was both her 'type' and an irrepressible flirt, to put it mildly. But none of that mattered to me because WCS was a place where I belonged, with all my gangly limbs, large nose, awkward 'beingness' and I would have gladly gone back to finish out my final year (1961).

Grateful for Lowell Naeve's instruction that has served me well for the past half century and all the experiences... I am very good at playing the cocktail game, "What have you done that no one else in the room has done?" My answer: drove a weapons carrier at age 16 (pulling stumps).

I'll be ordering your book next month... Annie

  • Hi Bill,

This is John Beerman '75. I am having a show of my paintings in NYC in Sept. at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery and wanted to know what is the best way for me to notify WCS alums in NYC (on this WCS site).

I will order your book, sounds interesting,

    Best,

    John

  • Thank you! Happy to be welcome!

  • Thanks Bill,

Thought of WCS as last week I went to an art show at the Arman Hammer Museum here in Los Angeles about Black Mountain College. Fascinating and it gave me real insights into David and Peggy Bailey and how BMC was the template for WCS. If you make it out here by May you should definitely come and see it!

  • Thanks, Bill! Great to hear from you...will respond via email.

  • Hey, Bill I'm trying to round 'em up. Can't wait to see you and Rebecca. Lots of snow fallen since we last got together! xo Anita

  • Hello Bill. The "struggle" is happily low key at the moment. Glad to hear you like Kiva. Hoping I can make it to the 2015 shindig.

  • Yes, Lark Newick, then, more commonly known as Lark Blair for the last 34 years. Thank you.
  • Greetings from Guam.  Yes the island is 1/3 military.  1/3 local govt. and 1/3 private.  It is one of the only places in this area of the pacific where a person of any nationality can buy and own land.  So that 1/3 in private hands is very dear.

I love it out here.  Let back to this site by today's announcement of the 2015 reunion.  I am definitely going to try to make it this time I so regretted missing the last one.

    Take care,

    Bob
